    Love your channel and recipes... except anything with mushrooms. I've tried all types of mushrooms and cooking methods, can't get past the fungus taste of all of them.

    brown rice contain phytic acid which inhibit the absorption of iron! so does beans and lentils etc

    Buy grains and beans in bulk too! I get a "couple of handfulls" of several grains in bulk so I can mix them for interest at home. I prefer canned beans most of the time, but for dal, split peas and lentils I also get bulk so I am paying for food and not packaging.

    1 cup of oats DOES NOT contain 13mg of iron. It contains 3.4mg. Just look at Cronometer!

    I was diagnosed with iron deficiency anemia years before I was vegan so this is good to see. It always helps to get more options. I'm on supplements already but every little bit helps.

    I've been vegan for over 28 years. The only thing I am deficient in is iron. I've had iron deficiency anaemia before I was vegan and that is the only supplement I take ( vit D3 too as I live in Canada). Protein was very easy to incorporate but no matter how much iron I consume it was never enough without supplementation. I'm hoping when that beautiful moon cycle women are cursed with goes away that I will not need the supplementation 😂 I eat Kasha which is Eastern European and high in iron or I also eat baby cereal as it is even higher and I consume it for breakfast that one week every month... 😆. There is a legume that is higher in iron than lentils. The French use it in their signature cassoulet dishes. Not sure if it is easy to find in the States. I live in Quebec and you can find it here easily but they are the most expensive legumes. One tiny bag is well over 20$. It is imported from France.

      @@YodiJohsonna No actually. I do use molasses and at times crave ginger molasses cookies for a sweet treat and I use it sometimes as a substitute for maple syrup. I know molasses is high in iron too. Do you mix it with hot water and lemon? How much do you put it for each glass?

      @dolcemaddalena yes! It's said to be a great way to raise iron levels! You just take 8-16oz of warm water and 1 tbsp of black strap molasses and then add the juice of half or 1 lemon...mix and drink. You can do this up to 2x per day. The lemon helps boost the uptake of the iron in the molasses so it's something you want to add each time.

    This video was so inspiring! I'm vegan, and I thought I needed fortified breakfast cereal to get enough iron, but after watching your video I put my typical day of eating into Cronometer, and I'm doing way better than I thought. Need to eat more lentils though!

    This is just what I’ve been looking for! What are your thoughts on turmeric blocking iron absorption? I drink golden milk and use it in my food for joint pain but I’m wondering if I should eliminate it.

      I take a lot of turmeric and have no problem with this. Just recently had iron and iron stores checked. Always check with your doctor tho

    I think you have overestimated the protein grams in every meal. I count my protein intake and with the portions you showed, you would not reach those numbers. The best is adding a tablespoon of protein to a third of a cup of oats in the morning with soy milk and flaxseed. For lunch you do pulses but mix it with either a higher protein bread or with tofu, seitan and for dinner no carbs. Just tempeh or tofu with let’s say tahini and steamed veggies. For snacks do walnuts and a Brazil nut, add hooch to meals, a tablespoon of zinc for lunch and that should be it
